Time to get Digital with My planner

Classic Dayrunner

In the 80s – this was my bible- i.e. my calendar, address book, Rolodex and wedding planner all in one. I kept it stocked with note paper and stamps and a checkbook . It had a ruler, dividers, pockets for receipts. It was a dream for a planner like me. I love to make lists and be organized.

For a few years I flirted with Filofax which were smaller and fit better into a purse, once I started hauling diaper bags around, it was serviceable, but it wasn’t quite the same –

Times have changed and this week for a house renovation project – I migrated to a digital planner on an iPad mini.

Like most of you, I keep my calendar, lists and contacts on my phone where they can sync to multiple devices, but when it came to samples, light fixtures, appliances, flooring, windows, paint colors and cabinets, my lists were getting too numerous and so I brought in folders to the rescue via Goodnotes, which everyone under 30 have been using since their college days.

My digital planner

Thanks to a zip around Tech folio from Target, my iPad mini 6 and Apple pencil 2 are cozy for only $15. I had all three delivered from Target with Shipit- even better.

I can keep stamps, pens, post it notes and a Rifle Paper company stitched 8×6 notebook in it too. Most of the features of my long retired day runner without the bulk or weight. Score one for technology.

New Year, New Note Cards

I am part of a dying breed that still hand writes thank you notes and condolence notes. I was raised with personalized stationary with my name engraved/embossed – which I still use for RSVPs and writing to faculty and other educators to thank them for their efforts – but lately I have shifted to creating my own “watercolor” notecards.

Magically – I can do this all from my phone thanks to two apps Waterlogue and Shutterfly. Here’s how:

Open the Waterlogue app and select a picture from your camera roll. Once Waterlogue has converted it to a painting of your liking – save it. Open your Shutterfly App to create a photo note card and upload your Waterlogue painting from your camera roll – Ta da – I use the 5X 7 upload your own notecard with rounded corners – You can put your own tag line on the back of the cards also and order as many or as few as you need. Don’t expect speedy shipping – but they arrive sooner than I would have imagined. You can also turn these works of “art” into Jigsaw Puzzles.

You can skip Waterlogue and just make note cards with photos -full disclosure – I copied this idea from a friend who had made cards with a photograph that her mother had taken in Giverny and she used them to answer condolence notes.

Here are a few that I have made – Have fun

Thanks NWS for letting me borrow your great idea:)

Cranberry Candles

Super easy project that kids can do also-just watch out for glass containers. You could use plastic jars or melamine bowls also

I use flameless floating candles that turn on when in water, but you can also use wax floating candles

Fill your container with cranberries and cover them with water and you are done.

You can also combine with evergreens. Just remember that cranberries float and put your greens in first.
